Guardrails are large-scale permanent facilities for outdoor use. Different protection systems should be selected for different atmospheric environments. The newly issued national standard GB / t18226-2000 technical conditions for corrosion protection of steel components of expressway traffic engineering pides the protection of guardrail products into four categories: galvanizing, aluminizing, plastic coating after galvanizing (aluminum) and plastic coating. In rural areas and areas with less serious pollution, separate hot-dip galvanized layer protection or separate plastic sprayed protective guardrail plate can be used. In heavy industrial areas or coastal urban areas, especially in areas with acid rain, ordinary hot-dip galvanized or plastic sprayed single coating guardrail plate may lose its effectiveness before its service life, resulting in a significant increase in the maintenance cost of guardrail. For hot-dip aluminum guardrail, its corrosion resistance is better than ordinary hot-dip zinc guardrail, but its application scope is not very wide due to its process, technology, cost and impact on the environment. The protection system of hot dip aluminum + plastic spraying is an uneconomical method compared with the protection system of hot dip zinc + plastic spraying.
